Gaelic Grounds to host Division 1 hurling league semi-finals on Easter Sunday

Clare will face Tipperary while Kilkenny take on Galway.

THE GAELIC GROUNDS in Limerick will host the Division 1 hurling semi-final double-header on Easter Sunday.

It has been confirmed that the Ennis Road venue will host the games with Galway facing Kilkenny at 2pm while Clare will take on Tipperary at 4pm.

Kilkenny will be hoping to repeat their league semi-final win over Galway last year when they collide at the last four stage. When the teams met in the league in early March in Nowlan Park, Killkenny had three points to spare at the final whistle.

Yesterday Kilkenny defeated Wexford at the quarter-final stage by 4-22 to 2-16 while Galway were 1-20 to 1-12 victors over Limerick.

Clare booked their place with a 2-23 to 2-19 quarter-final win over Laois yesterday while Tipperary were 3-25 to 4-19 victors over Cork.

The sides have already met twice this year with Tipperary winning the Waterford Crystal Cup final while Clare were seven-point winners when they clashed in Thurles in the league earlier this month.

Kilkenny will be hoping to qualify for their fourth successive final as they chase a three-in-a-row of league titles. Tipperary lost out in last year’s decider while Galway last appeared in the final in 2010 when they defeated Cork. Clare’s last Division 1 hurling final appearance was back in 2005 when they lost to Kilkenny.

Here’s all seven goals from the Tipperary and Cork showdown in Thurles yesterday
