Galway's Corofin crowned Kilmacud Crokes Football 7s champions

The side had lost to St Gall’s in last year’s final after a penalty shootout.

GALWAY’S COROFIN WERE crowned FBD Kilmacud Crokes Football 7s champions with victory over Antrim’s St Gall’s this afternoon.

Corofin warmed up for their Galway county final showdown with Salthill-Knocknacarra on October 13th, with a 2-6 to 1-8 final win.

It was a memorable win for the Galway side after losing out to St Gall’s in last year’s final after a penalty shootout.

Goalkeeper Dave Morris was the Corofin hero as he slammed a late penalty to the net after minutes previously he had been beaten from the penalty spot by St Gall’s CJ McGourty.

Corofin held on despite late St Gall’s pressure with captain Gary Sice lifting the trophy to kickstart their celebrations.

In the semi-finals played in brilliant weather conditions at Kilmacud Crokes main pitch at Glenalbyn, St Gall’s defeated Kildare side Carbury while Corofin beat Down’s Castlewellan.
