Joey Carbery included in 28-man Ireland XV squad captained by Gus McCarthy

Mark Sexton will coach the squad, who are set to play Fiji A in Cork.

JOEY CARBERY HAS been included in a 28-man Ireland XV squad for next month’s meeting with Fiji A at Virgin Media Park.

Mark Sexton will coach the side for the fixture, set for Friday, 20 November.

Carbery was last capped at international level in 2022, but is back in the picture having re-joined Leinster from Bordeaux Bègles over the summer.

The 30-year-old will join an Ireland XV squad who are set to assemble in Cork on Monday, 16 November.

Leinster’s Gus McCarthy captains the group, which is made up of 16 forwards and 12 backs.

Munster lead the way with nine players in the squad. Connacht provide seven, while Leinster and Ulster both have six players included.

The Ireland XV fixture will form part of a double-header in Cork as the Ireland U20s take on Scotland U20s at 5pm.

Broadcast details for both matches are to be confirmed.

Ireland XV Head Coach Sexton said: “I am proud and excited to work with the Ireland XV squad for the forthcoming match against Fiji ‘A’ in Cork.

“This will be a great opportunity to provide an ambitious playing group from across the four provinces with a meaningful fixture against what is a talented Fiji side.

“I know from my personal experience of coaching sides in Cork with the Ireland U20s how influential a vocal Cork and Munster supporter base can be and hopefully we can count on another big crowd.

“I’m looking forward to working with the coaching team and players over the coming weeks.

“This is a hugely important fixture for players to put their hands up and try to break into the senior Men’s squad and everyone will be motivated to be switched on and ready to take the chance to deliver in an Irish jersey.”
