A new app mocking Gonzalo Higuain's weight has been released

Despite being the third most expensive player ever, the Argentina star is a divisive figure in his homeland.

LIKE MANY TOP footballers, Gonzalo Higuain tends to receive as much abuse as he does praise.

The Argentina star last month sealed a controversial €90 million switch to Juventus from Napoli, with the latter club saying they felt “betrayed” after their star player joined their arch rivals.

However, people from Naples aren’t the only ones who are less than enamoured with the 28-year-old striker.

In Argentina, football fans have developed an app mocking the player’s physical appearance and past tendency to miss big chances.

Higuain has gained a reputation in his homeland for missing gilt-edged opportunities in big matches and the app has highlighted this issue.

‘Pipita on Fire’ had its worldwide release yesterday, with the main aim of the game to get Higuain past a number of defenders and score the chances he missed in the 2014 World Cup final against Germany, as well as in the 2015 and 2016 Copa America finals against Chile.

The Juve star’s weight has been questioned in recent times, and so as part of the game, the player must also avoid the food being thrown in his direction.

And it is not the only criticism Higuain has received of late, with several fans suggesting the player was overweight as he made his Juventus debut in a pre-season friendly against West Ham yesterday.
