MATCHES WILL KICK-OFF seven minutes later than scheduled as English football comes together next month to remember the 96 people who lost their lives in the Hillsborough Stadium disaster.
Ahead of the 25th anniversary of the tragedy on 15 April, all league and cup matches on the weekend of 11-14 April will be preceded by a minute’s silence and kick off seven minutes late.
Ninety-six Liverpool fans were killed in a crush at the 1989 FA Cup semi-final against Nottingham Forest. The game was ended at 3.06pm, six minutes after kick-off.
The police response to the tragedy, which sought to deflect blame onto the supporters, led to a sustained campaign for justice on Merseyside and further afield.
An independent report published in 2012 found that the fans were in no way responsible for the disaster which was caused by a lack of police control.
The London High Court subsequently quashed the original verdict of accidental death and ordered fresh inquests, which are expected to begin this year.
Liverpool host Manchester City on 13 April with kick-off now scheduled for 1.37pm.
