Millimetres from a hole in one, Thorbjorn Olesen ends up with a bogey

Golf is a cruel, cruel mistress.

HAVING ALREADY EAGLED the par five seventh hole to continue his climb up the middle of the PGA Championship leaderboard, Thorbjorn Olesen looked set to move to -5 for the day with an ace on the par three eighth hole.

However, the Danish golfer could only watch as his effort bounced off the base of the flag and rolled off the front of the green.

In the end, Olesen carded a bogey in what proved to be a three-shot swing.
