STEPHEN KENNY HAS finally been confirmed as Shamrock Rovers’ new first-team manager.

In a statement released by the League of Ireland champions on Tuesday, the club announced that the Dubliner would be officially unveiled at a press conference at Tallaght Stadium on Wednesday afternoon (3pm).

It continued: “With over 13 years managing at the top level of Irish football, Kenny brings a wealth of experience to the role ahead of the 2012 season.

“All at Shamrock Rovers would like to wish Stephen the best in his new role at the club.”

Kenny will move back to Dublin from Derry City where he had been manager for a number of seasons. It is understood that the club will be paid compensation for the departure of their former boss, who takes over the reins from Michael O’Neill.

The champions will travel to Drogheda at the beginning of March to kick off their new league campaign having been part of the Europa League right up until December. Preparations are already underway for the new season with Chris Turner, Stephen O’Donnell and Gary McCabe among those already signed up for 2012.

One of the most successful managers still involved in the league, Kenny has also had spells at Longford Town, Bohemians and Dunfermline Athletic in Scotland.
