'I underestimated Everton' - Roberto Mancini

The City boss has openly accepted that he was ill-prepared for last night’s Premier League fixture.

ROBERT MANCINI HELD his hands up and accepted that the blame lay on his shoulders after a 1-0 defeat to Everton last night.

Manchester City threw away their three-point lead at the top of the Premier League as Darron Gibson’s second half goal was enough to give the Toffees a home win and the Italian admitted post-match that he hadn’t given David Moyes’ side enough respect.

Despite the fact that the Citizens have recorded just one win at Goodison Park in 14 league encounters, Mancini spoke of a complacency running through his team. When asked by Sky Sports if he had underestimated the opposition, the City boss replied: “Probably. Yes, probably.”

He went on to criticise his own preparation for the game, adding that it wasn’t up to scratch.

“I didn’t prepare well for this game,” he said during his press conference, ”I thought it was maybe easier. I know here it is never easy, never.

I acknowledge my mistake. It is important for me to know this because, like this, I can’t do the same mistakes in the next game.

“The players put everything on the pitch but I made some mistakes during the last three days preparing for this game.”

City take on Fulham at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday evening, while Manchester United meet Chelsea earlier that day.
