THE REPUBLIC OF Ireland could consider a late joint bid to host Euro 2020 with Wales and Scotland, according to reports.
The deadline for expressions of interest to host the tournament is at midnight tonight, and so far only Turkey have formally put their name forward as possible candidates.
Previous European Championships have involved a maximum of two hosts, however given the tournament’s impending expansion to accommodate 24 teams, it is understood that Wales and Scotland would likely need the assistance of a third country – thought to be Ireland – for any potential bid.

And a source confirmed to the Press Association that talks over a possible bid had occurred:
“Discussions have taken place about bidding but we would not be able to bid alone. It may need to be three countries involved.”
In addition, Stewart Regan, chief executive of the SFA, told insidethegames.biz:
“I’m not able to comment publicly at this stage because it has not gone to our board but there will be an exchange of correspondence before the deadline. It’s obviously something that has been discussed.”
