AS WE NOW know, Jamie Cudmore isn’t afraid of telling it how it is and the Canadian captain has taken aim at World Cup organisers as his team prepare for the journey home.

Canada’s campaign ended with defeat to Romania in Leicester on Tuesday and although they failed to win a game in Pool C, the Maple leafs won plenty of admirers for their brand of rugby.

After the 17-15 loss at the King Power Stadium, Cudmore was forthright in his reply to a question about the mood in the dressing room.

“What do you think it’s like? It’s f****** horrible,” he said. And the 37-year-old hasn’t been afraid to voice his displeasure at World Rugby either.

As Kieran Crowley’s side pack their bags there will no doubt be regrets at what they’ll look back on as missed opportunities but it appears salt has been rubbed into their wounds.

On Twitter, Cudmore revealed the Canadians were forced to pay for their own flight home and Samoa’s Daniel Leo was quick to add his support.

Leo, who was heavily critical of World Rugby on social media after team-mate Alesana Tuilagi was banned for five weeks, even went as far as to say the Tier 2 countries should boycott the next World Cup if this treatment continues.

The prevailing narrative of this World Cup has been the propensity of the smaller nations to exchange blows with the heavyweights. Japan’s defeat of South Africa set the tone and others have followed suit.

Moreover, they’ve each brought their own value – both on and off the field – to a tournament which has broken attendance records and has been an entertaining watch.

Ultimately, the likes of Canada are just as important to a world tournament than New Zealand or any of the big boys.
