CORK-BORN ATHLETE Jan Rossiter finished 82nd in the 15km cross-country ski race at the Winter Olympics in Sochi today.

Rossiter finished over 10 minutes behind Switzerland’s Dario Cologna, who won the race in which 92 athletes competed, with the Swiss skier comfortably securing his second gold medal at the Sochi Olympics in the process, over 28 seconds ahead of runner-up Johan Olsson of Sweden.

The Canada-based Rossiter finished with a time of 48.44.6 and will not be overly disappointed at failing to trouble the leading pack, having admitted to TheScore.ie last month that he had no realistic hope of challenging for a medal.

Another athlete representing Ireland — Sean Greenwood — is currently in action in the skeleton event.
