The deal means Collins is now officially the first openly gay active player in any of the four major sports organisations — NBA, MLB, NFL and NHL —  in the US.

He is expected to make his debut against the LA Lakers tonight.

The 35 year old has been without a team since announcing he was gay in April 2013.
