JASON RYAN IS the front runner to become the new Kildare football boss as a board meeting is scheduled to take place in the county tonight.
The Kildare county board were scheduled to meet last Tuesday night but the meeting was deferred until tonight instead.
Kildare have been without a manager since Kieran McGeeney’s six-year term was controversially brought to an end last month after he lost a ballot by county delegates by one vote, 29 to 28.
And now it looks like former Wexford boss Ryan is the front-runner to succeed the 2002 Armagh All-Ireland winning captain.
Ryan was recruited by McGeeney in a coaching role with Kildare for the start of the 2013 campaign. He arrived with strong credentials after impressing as Wexford manager.
Ryan was at the helm of the Model County for five campaigns between 2008 and 2012. In that time frame he guided them to two Leinster senior football finals but they suffered defeat on both occasion to Dublin in 2008 and 2011.
Former Kildare captain Glenn Ryan and ex-Kerry boss Jack O’Connor had been linked with the position but it now seems as if Jason Ryan is in pole position to take the job.
