Jon Jones arrested for alleged probation violation, still expected to fight at UFC 197

The former light heavyweight champion finds himself in hot water yet again.

FIVE DAYS AFTER he was citied for multiple traffic offences, Jon Jones was last night arrested for an alleged probation violation.

The 28-year-old was cited for drag racing, exhibition driving, weaving and failing to properly display his license plate in Albuquerque on 24 March.

He denied drag racing when confronted by the police officer who pulled him over in a bodycam video that went viral on Tuesday.

Jones is serving an 18-month supervised probation following a hit-and-run incident in April 2015 that left a pregnant woman with a broken arm and this latest incident follows another last month when the former light heavyweight champion was served with three traffic citations.

MMA Junkie reports that the Albuquerque district attorney’s office and Jones’ probation officer will jointly decide whether any probation violation has occurred.

Representatives of Jones told the website they didn’t expect these legal issues to”hinder the fight.”

Jones (15-1 in the UFC) is scheduled to a rematch with Daniel Cormier (6-1 in the UFC) with the former winning a unanimous decision victory the latter at UFC 182. However, Cormier won the title after Jones was stripped of the belt following the hit-and-run incident.

UFC 197 takes place on 23 April in Las Vegas.
