RESULT: Kerry 1-16 Cork 0-17

Welcome to Fitzgerald Stadium for the 2013 Munster senior football final between Kerry and Cork.

Here’s the Kerry squad selected this afternoon.

And here’s the Cork squad selected for the game.

It’s a beautiful afternoon in Killarney and there’s a big crowd already present in the 43,100 capacity Fitzgerald Stadium.

So the minor game is over and we’re waiting for both senior teams to come out onto the pitch.

The referee for today’s game is Sligo’s Marty Duffy with Clare’s Rory Hickey the standby referee. The linesman is Longford’s Fergal Kelly with Michael Meade of Limerick the sideline official.

Plenty speculation about the Cork starting fifteen. There’s likely to be changes to their team with talk of Noel O’Leary, Aidan Walsh and Donncha O’Connor coming into their team.

It’s a big day for Eamonn Fitzmaurice as he takes the managerial reins of the Kerry senior football team for the first time in a Munster final.

Cork have come out onto the field and are in the middle of their warm-up while we’re still waiting for Kerry to emerge from the dressing-room.

And now Kerry are out on the field.

18 years since Cork last triumphed in a senior championship game against Kerry in Killarney. Can they break that run of setbacks today? We’re just over 15 minutes away from throw-in.

Here’s the Cork changes that we expected. Noel O’Leary in for Tomas Clancy at wing-back, Aidan Walsh replaces Pearse O’Neill at midfield while Donncha O’Connor is into the attack for Patrick Kelly.

A big cheer goes up from the crowd at the announcement of Noel O’Leary’s name. It looks like he’ll be renewing acquaintances with his old rival Paul Galvin.

A hip injury is understood to be the reason for Patrick Kelly’s withdrawal.

Kerry line out as per the team that was announced during the week.

New faces on both sides then for Munster senior football final day in Killarney. Kerry have Mark Griffin, Peter Crowley and Johnny Buckley. Cork have Damien Cahalane, former Antrim player James Loughrey, John O’Rourke and Brian Hurley.

We’re getting ready for the pre-match parade.

The national anthem is over and we’re getting set for action.

Early long speculative shot by Aidan Walsh forces a diving save from Brendan Kealy in the Kerry goal.

Kerry have chance to open their account but Colm Cooper drags a free wide.

Another bad wide from Kerry, Darran O’Sullivan on this occasion after great work from Declan O’Sullivan.

Match-up’s to note see James Loughrey picking up Colm Cooper while Michael Shields is on Declan O’Sullivan.

Kerry 0-3 Cork 0-1: 6 mins – First point from play is notched by Declan O’Sullivan for Kerry. A tidy effort as well off his left foot. It’s followed by a really skillful score by James O’Donoghue off his right.

Cork are getting outplayed on their own kick out so far.

Great run forward by James Loughrey but when he offloads to Paul Kerrigan, his shot is inaccurate for Cork.

Kerry 0-5 Cork 0-2: 16 mins – Kerry starting to pull clear now and exert their authority. Anthony Maher barges through to land a fine point.

Kerry could be further ahead. Tomas O Sé shoots wide after a fine move had cut open the Cork defence. Kerry are moving the ball far better in attack now and creating the gaps.

Goal for Kerry from Colm Cooper!

Kerry 1-7 Cork 0-5: 29 mins – It’s been coming. Kerry hit the net through Colm Cooper but the break is made originally by Declan O’Sullivan who brushes aside the challenges of the Cork defence and offloads to Cooper. The Dr Crokes man calmly plants the ball to the net with his right foot.

Half-Time: Kerry 1-10 Cork 0-6: The half ends with Brendan Kealy booting over a free for Kerry.

Kerry have bossed the first-half exchanges and are fully deserving of their interval advantage. They retire with a seven-point lead and Cork have a lot to do in the second-half if they are going to turn this game around.

We’re about to get under way for the second-half. Cork have a mountain to climb here with Kerry in control.

Kerry 1-14 Cork 0-8: 48 mins – Marc O Sé gallops upfield and has plenty space with which to pick off his point for Kerry.

Kerry wide from Tomás O Sé. Their shooting has been inaccurate at certain stages today but it doesn’t look like it’s going to affect them.

Cork have taken off Donncha O’Connor and brought on Ciaran Sheehan.

Full-Time: Kerry 1-16 Cork 0-17: Kerry hold on for a two-point win.

Strange game in that Kerry looked like they were going to run away with it at one juncture when they lead by 1-14 to 0-8. Yet Cork hit six points on the trot and ultimately a series of substitutions helped them come back into contention.

Kerry go forward to the All-Ireland quarter-finals while Cork must head to the backdoor route with a round 4 qualifier on July 27th. That’s all from us this afternoon, thanks for joining us.
