Knock: Steven Reid facing spell on the sidelines

The West Brom stalwart suffered an ankle injury in the win over Chelsea.

STEVEN REID WILL await the results of a scan today, assessing the severity of a knock to his ankle ligaments.

The former Ireland midfielder was central to West brom’s weekend efforts which saw them win 1-0 against Chelsea and drive the final nail into Andre Villas Boas career at the Blues.

With the score still goalless, however, Reid was forced off with an ankle injury.

The 30-year-old is likely to sit out at least the next two weeks but manager, Roy Hodgson is hopeful he can return to the fold soon after that.

On Saturday, Hodgson told the club’s website:

“We don’t think it is really, really serious but, of course, we won’t know until a scan is conducted,”

“It will keep him out for a short period, I’m sure, because when you turn your ankle over, you do some sort of ligament damage and that will have to be assessed.”

The results of the scan should become available in the next 24 hours and Hodgson added, “we’re hoping it’s not as bad as all that.”

The Baggies currently lie in mid-table and have impressed greatly in recent weeks after, not only beating Chelsea, but scoring four and five (respectively) against Sunderland and Wolves.

Only Swansea have beaten Hodgson’s side since the beginning of February and they will be looking to keep that form up for this Sunday’s visit to Old Trafford, where they claimed a point against Manchester United last season.
