Play-off semi-final second legs

Bray Wanderers 3-0 Kerry (Bray win 5-1 on aggregate)

UCD 2-0 Longford Town (UCD win 4-0 on aggregate)

BRAY WANDERERS AND UCD cruised into Sunday’s First Division promotion play-off final after four-goal aggregate victories over Kerry and Longford Town.

The Seagulls carried a 2-1 lead into their sold-out second leg against play-off debutants Kerry and John Bilili Sesay added to their cushion in the 33rd minute at the Carlisle Grounds.

The 19-year-old Sierra Leone international nodded home from close range for his fourth goal of the season after Tyreik Sammy kept the ball alive from a Bray free-kick.

The writing was on the wall in the 55th minute as Cian Brosnan received a red card. The left-back was adjudged to have brought down Sammy to deny a goalscoring opportunity.

Shelbourne loanee Sammy got his goal in the 73rd minute when tapping in a rebound from Ajibola Oluwabiyi for his 10th of the league season.

Jamie Duggan added the cherry on top when heading home for the fourth time this season from Conor Knight’s corner.

That secured the Seagulls’ progress to a third successive promotion play-off final. They beat Athlone Town and Treaty United in those clashes, but subsequently lost to the ninth-placed Premier Division side, Drogheda United and Waterford, both years.

UCD, who finished two points ahead of Bray in the league table, will meet them in the final after replicating their 2-0 first-leg victory over Longford in the return fixture before 872 fans at the UCD Bowl.

Mikey McCullagh buried the dagger with a smart half-volley in the 19th minute, bringing up his third goal of the season.

Hugh Smith will be one to watch in that play-off final. In the 57th minute, the in-form striker carried the ball from inside his own half to tuck inside the far corner.

The 19-year-old has 17 league goals this season, including five in his past three games.
