A CLINICAL PERFORMANCE from St Patrick’s Athletic saw the Inchicore outfit stretch their lead at the top of the Airtricity League to six points on Saturday evening.
Killian Brennan opened the scoring for the home team just before half-time, blasting home from 25 yards after being frustrated by Limerick for most of the opening period.
Substitute Anthony Flood doubled their lead on 57 minutes before Jake Kelly sealed the points three minutes into injury time, tapping home after dogged work from Sean Gannon.
Sligo Rovers slip to third place after being held to a scoreless draw with Bohemians at the showgrounds and, worryingly for Rovers boss Ian Baraclough, his side have now gone four league games without a goal.
Elsewhere, Jason Byrne scored four goals, making it nine in three games for the hitman, to help Bray to a 5-4 win away to UCD. Byrne’s first two goals came in the space of just four first half minutes but it was his fourth in the 85th minute that proved to be the match winner.
In Saturday’s only other Premier Division game, Michael Duffy scored his first senior goal for Derry City to move his side into second position on 33 points after a 1-0 win away to Shelbourne.
