Good afternoon. It’s Rodgers v Moyes, the Redmen v the Toffees, or, in league tables terms, sixth v seventh. Liverpool host city rivals Everton in the Merseyside Derby at Anfield this afternoon.

Here’s how they match up:

Back in October, Luis Suarez was in the thick of the action when he scored via a deflection off Leighton Baines before controversially diving in front of David Moyes. The Uruguayan was then denied an injury-time winner in the 2-2 draw.

Liverpool have so far fared well without their talisman, who has begun his 10-match ban, but how do you reckon the game will go today?

Here are the teams:

Liverpool: Reina, Johnson, Enrique, Agger, Carragher, Gerrard, Lucas, Henderson, Coutinho, Downing, Sturridge.

Everton: Howard, Baines, Gibson, Jagielka, Mirallas, Distin, Osman, Pienaar, Coleman, Fellaini, Anichebe.

Brendan Rodgers sticks with the same team which tore Newcastle apart 6-0 while Darron Gibson comes into the Everton line-up in place of Nikica Jelavic.

It’s this man’s 30th and final Merseyside derby. Jamie Carragher would surely love nothing more than to go out with a win against the old enemy.

‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ rings around the ground while the Liverpool fans unveil a mosaic spelling out the word ‘Thanks’ for the support they received from Everton during their Hillsborough campaign.

On the pitch, we’re off and running.

Unsurprisingly, there have already been a few hefty challenges flying with referee Michael Oliver letting things flow so far.

Daniel Sturridge has had the game’s first shot, meanwhile. After good build-up play, the finish is weak and well wide.

Steven Gerrard picks out Sturridge on the left and his inviting cutback is cleared brilliantly by Phil Jagielka. Down the other end, Steven Pienaar fires off target.

Sturridge seeing a lot of the ball early on. He takes down Gerrard’s inch-perfect pass and, with Stuart Downing looking to be slipped through on goal, the former Chelsea and Manchester City striker blazes over.

That was close. Glen Johnson concedes a free-kick needlessly, Baines sends in the delivery and Marouane Fellaini is just wide of finding the back of the net. Kevin Miralles then drags his shot across Pepe Reina’s goalmouth.

Having been on the receiving end of an Osman challenge a few minutes ago, Gerrard catches the midfielder late, but the yellow card is staying in Mr Oliver’s pocket for now.

Nothing between them after 24 minutes.

Downing gets the better of Baines by cutting inside the full-back and when the ball falls to Gerrard he unleashed a powerful strike which Jagielka stands tall to block. His central defensive partner Sylvain Distin then has to be smart to snuff out Coutinho’s clever pass.

Everton win a free-kick well within Gibson’s shooting range but the self-exile Ireland midfielder is way off.

For Liverpool, another super touch from Henderson (who has started very well) picks out Sturridge but Everton’s defence once again come out on top.

Under pressure from Gerrard, Fellaini flicks out an arm into the face of the Liverrpool skipper. Not the smartest thing to do.

And we’re back.

Tim Howard has to be at his best to keep out Sturridge when the striker is one-on-one with the American stopper.

Everton have the ball in the back of the net but the whistle had gone for a free-kick to Liverpool. Distin heads home but it won’t count. There was the normal pushing and shoving in the box but it looks a harsh decision.

First substitution of the day sees Brendan Rodgers make a positive move. Off goes Henderson and on comes Fabio Borini who will join Sturridge up front with Coutinho going wide left.

Enrique plays a short pass back to Reina and puts his hand on Mirallas, who is attempting to capitalise on the mistake. The Belgian goes down very easily and that’s his last involvement as Nikica Jelavic is being introduced.

Gerrard goes by Howard but Distin is in the right place at the right time to clear what would have been a certain goal. Martin Skrtel has replaced Downing, meanwhile. Ten to play.

Sturridge switches to Enrique and the Spaniard drills a wonderful ball across the Everton six-yard box but Borini hasn’t anticipated it and it rolls away harmlessly.

Anichebe’s shot from 20 yards, which loops up in the air from a deflection, causes Reina some hassle as he has to bat it out for a corner.

Replays are showing Fellaini using his elbow on Skrtel. He could be in trouble if the FA review the incident.

So, the derby ends in a draw for a second time this season. Neither side did enough in what was a relatively poor game but Everton will feel hard done by for that Distin goal that was disallowed.

The teams remain as they were with the Toffees holding a five point gap over the Reds.
