Everton 4-0 Sunderland

Newcastle United 2-0 Bolton Wanderers

Tottenham Hotspur 1-2 Norwich

It just doesn’t stop this weekend! Welcome to another day of Premier League coverage, where the stand-out tie of the three this afternoon is Newcastle against Bolton. The former will look to continue their remarkable Champions League charge, the latter need to bounce back from Saturday’s surprising home defeat to Fulham. Elsewhere, Tottenham need to keep Newcastle at bay by claiming just their second win in eight, against Norwich. Sunderland will look to end their season strongly by gaining revenge on Everton for that FA Cup defeat.

The teams:

Everton: Howard, Hibbert, Jagielka, Heitinga, Neville, Gueye, Fellaini, Osman, Pienaar, McFadden, Stracqualursi. Subs: Mucha, Gibson, Drenthe, Distin, Coleman, Anichebe, Duffy.

Sunderland: Mignolet, Bardsley, Turner, Kilgallon, Colback, Larsson, Vaughan, Cattermole, McClean, Gardner, Sessegnon. Subs: Westwood, Bridge, Wickham, Richardson, Ji, Meyler, Kyrgiakos.

Newcastle: Krul, Simpson, Williamson, Coloccini, Santon, Ben Arfa, Cabaye, Perch, Gutierrez, Ba, Cisse. Subs: Elliot, Abeid, Gosling, Ryan Taylor, Shola Ameobi, Ferguson, Tavernier.

Bolton: Bogdan, Ricketts, Ream, Wheater, Steinsson, Mark Davies, Reo-Coker, Pratley, Kevin Davies, Petrov, Eagles. Subs: Jaaskelainen, Alonso, Knight, Klasnic, Ngog, Sordell, Miyaichi.

Tottenham: Friedel, Walker, Kaboul, King, Assou-Ekotto, Lennon, Livermore, Modric, Bale, Saha, Defoe. Subs: Cudicini, Adebayor, Van der Vaart, Kranjcar, Rose, Sandro, Nelsen.

Norwich: Ruddy, Martin, Ryan Bennett, Ward, Drury, Elliott Bennett, Howson, Johnson, Pilkington, Holt, Wilbraham. Subs: Steer, Morison, Crofts, Jackson, Surman, Hoolahan, Barnett.

Everton making a lot of changes, resting the likes of Tim Cahill and Nikica Jelavic with the FA Cup derby at the weekend. You can’t blame Moyes. It means the game to watch really is at St James’s Park.

And we’re off…

And we’re off…

Bolton have started brightly enough, threatening Newcastle. This has the look of an open game already.

Saha goes close for Spurs, who – of course – have been struggling for attacking inspiration of late. The Frenchman linked up well with Defoe there.

Kevin Davies almost bustles his way through the Newcastle backline but he’s muscled out in the end. Newcastle hold it together if still looking ever so slightly fragile.

It’s been a predictably quiet start at Goodison, meanwhile.

GOAL! Tottenham Hotspur 0-1 Norwich City

Are you watching Giovanni Trapattoni? Spurs’ poor form continues as that young man Anthony Pilkington bundles his way through the home team’s defences to eventually fire him. The finish in the end is neat, even if the lead-up to it wasn’t.

It should also be emphasised that was atrocious defending from Spurs, from at least three players if not the entire backline.

Norwich have been well in control since the goal too. Tottenham on edge. You couldn’t have confidence in them as regards the Champions League chase at the moment.

At the end of the season, we’ll probably be doing a series of best XIs, including those who were brilliant in first half of season but awful after it. It’s likely to be filled with Tottenham and Manchester City players at the moment.

GOAL! Tottenham 1-1 Norwich

More like it for Spurs but not without some controversy. Grant Holt appeared to be brought down in the box at one end only for Tottenham to go straight up the other end for Jermain Defoe to finish superbly. His 16th of the season and very possibly an important one.

Norwich have every right to be aggrieved. That should have been a penalty. King had a hold of Holt. But, to be fair to Paul Lambert’s side, they’re using that anger in a positive way: they’re right back on top.

Just the 40 minutes in, Sunderland enjoy their first chance of the game at Goodison Park, Sessegnon trying tan ambitious overhead kick that goes just wide.

There’s been a fair amount of fall-out from Holt’s non-penalty at the Lane. The striker has been involved in a few altercations with Tottenham players, most notably Younes Kaboul, while Lambert has only just stopped having words with the fourth official.

Half-times all around the Premier League now (by which we mean three games). All the action concentrated into White Hart Lane, with the other two matches very muted.

Lambert apparently cursing at referee Oliver as both Norwich and Spurs go down the tunnel. His players haven’t proved so distracted.

The second halves are under way.

Adebayor has come on for Saha and seems to have had an effect as Spurs looking a bit sharper.,

Chris Eagles just fires a superb shot at goal, forcing a fine save from Tim Krul. Hopefully it will spark this game into life because it was a poor first half as Bolton packed the midfield.

This tweet from the Independent’s Jack Pitt-Brooke at White Hart lane:

Anthony Pilkington is giving Kyle Walker a harder time than many have this year. Walker booked for fouling him now.

GOAL! Everton 1-0 Sunderland

Might David Moyes get his first ever Premier League win over Martin O’Neill? Gueye sends Everton on their way by reacting first to a Mignolet parry from an Osman shot to open the scoring.

Another penalty shout for Norwich as Holt is nudged in the box. Lambert is not happy!

Mark Davies so close for Bolton! Davies crossed into the box and the Newcastle defence allowed it to defence. Davies should possibly have just swung at it then rather than let it come across him as that, ultimately, allowed Krul to make a good save. Bolton arguably the better team here.

Demba Ba going off for Newcastle. He doesn’t look the happiest. But neither does Pardew, as Newcastle have been frustrated today.

Ben Arfa unlucky from a free kick, swinging it just wide. Bogdan was scrambling across the box although the suspicion is he would have got there.

GOAL! Tottenham 1-2 Norwich City

Justice done at Carrow Road. And in some style! Elliott Bennett scores an absolute screamer from outside the box! Brilliant effort!

GOAL! Newcastle United 1-0 Bolton

That is a superb goal from Hatem Ben Arfa! Picking it up at the halfway, he skips past a series of Bolton defenders before coolly sliding it past Bogdan. Brilliant stuff. And, with Spurs losing, a potentially very big goal.

GOAL! Everton 2-0 Sunderland

It gets worse for Sunderland. Steven Pienaar feigns a pass before curling in a supreme strike from outside the box. A third exceptional goal in a row. Every game has been treated to one now!

GOAL! Everton 3-0 Sunderland

Leon Osman scores a similar goal to Pienaar’s, another excellent finish. Moyes is well on the way to that first league win over O’Neill!

These results, by the way, would put Newcastle level on points with Spurs. It’s hard to back against them getting fourth right now. Chelsea have a taxing fixture list while Spurs are in freefall. Newcastle, meanwhile, have kept creditable consistency.

GOAL! Everton 4-0 Sunderland

Oh Sunderland. Victor Anichebe keeps up his superb record of scoring as a sub, with the youngster firing in from a cross. Took a deflection off Colback.

GOAL! Newcastle 2-0 Bolton

And that should seal the three points here. But who is it? That man again, Cisse. he gets his eighth goal in five games by easily slotting in Ameobi’s cross. Harsh on Bolton. But, again, that’s Champions League form.

Not looking like it’s going to happen for Tottenham. They’ve really lost their energy. This is an incredible collapse.

Norwich have had a third penalty shout for another push in the box. if they don’t claim the win here…

Spurs will drop to fifth if Chelsea win tonight.

Full-time at St James’s Park. Another fine – and important – win for Newcastle. The form team in the chase for fourth.

Newcastle have won five consecutive Premier League games for the first time since April 2006.

Full-time: Tottenham 1-2 Norwich

Another disaster for Spurs. Only one win in eight and clinging onto fourth by their finger tips. That’s an indictment for a team talked of as title challengers only a few months ago.

An afternoon that began in quite muted fashion ends with some very meaningful results: the chase for fourth is hugely interesting now with Newcastle seizing the initiative. Tottenham aren’t seizing anything. In fact, they’re letting everything slip through their fingers.
