SHANE LOWRY AND Graeme McDowell will represent Ireland at the World Cup of Golf later this year.
As the highest-ranked Irish golfer available for selection, Lowry will make his competition debut at Royal Melbourne from 21-24 November.
World number four Rory McIlroy cannot play because of an exclusivity deal with the Australian Open which takes place in Sydney the following week.
“Absolutely can’t wait to represent Ireland at this year’s [World Cup] in Melbourne with @Graeme_McDowell,” Lowry tweeted.
The Clara native withdrew from this week’s Italian Open with flu but his ranking of 83rd will be enough to guarantee his World Cup place at Monday’s qualifying cut-off.
McDowell was runner-up with McIlroy at the 2009 World Cup in Shenzhen, China.
Ireland have not won the event since Padraig Harrington and Paul McGinley’s victory at Kiawah Island in 1997.
