LEICESTER CITY PLAYMAKER Riyad Mahrez has ended speculation about his immediate future by signing a new four-year contract..
The Algeria international is now tied to the current champions until 2020.
The 25-year-old was a key figure in Leicester’s shock run to the 2015/16 title, which saw the Foxes defy odds of 5,000/1, scoring 17 goals and being responsible for a further 11 assists.
His form last season saw Mahrez named Player of the Year by England’s Professional Footballers’ Association.
It was the latest chapter in a remarkable success story for Mahrez, who joined Leicester from French second division side Le Havre in January 2014.
Mahrez, in common with several of his Leicester team-mates, has been the subject of transfer speculation. However, he has now joined the likes of club captain Wes Morgan, Jamie Vardy, Kasper Schmeichel and Andy King in signing a deal that will keep him at the King Power Stadium.
Leicester began their title defence with a shock 2-1 loss away to Hull City last weekend. The Foxes host their first home game of the 2016/17 season on Saturday when Arsenal are the visitors.
