Watch: Ethiopian athlete pulls race leader's shorts in bizarre finish to men's 5,000m

Two runners got tangled up on the final bend of the race at Lausanne’s Athletissima IAAF Diamond League meeting.

THERE WAS A bizarre end to the men’s 5,000m at Lausanne’s Athletissima IAAF Diamond League meeting on Thursday night, as an Ethiopian athlete pulled the race leader’s shorts on the final bend.

Yomif Kejelcha of Ethiopia was in front on the final lap with his 18-year-old compatriot Selemon Barega trailing behind him.

As the 20 year-old Kejelcha came up to the final bend he appeared to get in a tangle with Barega and started to stumble. He then grabbed Barega’s shorts as he was falling and pulled him back in an extraordinary move.

Barega managed to recover to and finish in second place, but the incident allowed third-placed Birhanu Balew of Bahrain to storm past the pair and run down the home straight to win in a 2018-leading time of 13:01.09.

A bizarre moment indeed. You can watch it here:
