Bulls captain Marcell Coetzee avoids suspension after citing in Ulster game

Coetzee was cited for an act of foul play in the 43rd minute of his side’s win over the Irish province.

BULLS CAPTAIN MARCELL Coetzee is clear to play this weekend after he avoided a suspension in a disciplinary hearing for being cited in his side’s win over Ulster last week.

Coetzee was cited for an act of foul play in the 43rd minute of the game for dangerous play in a ruck or maul. A yellow card was issued at the time, a decision which has been upheld at the hearing.

The incident was reviewed by Ben Rutherford (Chair – Ireland), Declan Goodwin and Chris Morgan (Wales). A statement from URC reads that they agreed “an act of foul play had occurred, the clean out was principally shoulder to body.

“The head contact was incidental and low force, corroborated by the evidence of both the Player and his opponent and medical team. The degree of danger was therefore low in accordance with the World Rugby Head Coach Process and the correct outcome was a yellow card, as issued by the match officials on the day.”

The decision means Coetzee will be free to play against the Scarlets this weekend.
