Ex-Wallaby Marco Caputo set to replace Feek as Leinster scrum coach

The five-times capped former hooker previously played alongside Matt O’Connor for the Brumbies.

FORMER AUSTRALIA INTERNATIONAL Marco Caputo looks set to join Leinster in the role of scrum coach. understands that the five-times capped hooker has agreed to replace Greg Feek in the position for the start of next season.

Caputo has previously played with the province’s head coach Matt O’Connor at the Brumbies, meaning the pair have a strong existing relationship.

Caputo’s playing career saw him enjoy spells with Clermont, Harlequins, Worcester and Modena in Italy, as well as with the Australian franchise. After his retirement in the summer of 2004, the Italian native gradually moved into the world of coaching.

Two seasons as Director of Rugby at home club Gungahlin Eagles in ACT led to his appointment as Academy Manager for the Brumbies in 2009, a role which involved coaching the club’s young forwards.

That positioned subsequently morphed into Caputo stepping up to become the Super Rugby side’s scrum coach at senior level, a job which lasted from June 2010 until August 2011.

The 42-year-old, who began his playing days as a loosehead prop, has more recently been involved with Japanese outfit Mitsubishi Dynaboars – where Shane Williams is a player/coach – on a consultancy basis, combining that involvement with several business interests.

Caputo has remained close to the Brumbies and currently acts as a match day commentator on ABC Radio for the franchise’s Super Rugby fixtures.

However, it now appears that the former Wallaby will replace Feek at Leinster, with the latter having moved into a full-time position with Ireland.
