IRELAND MANAGER MARTIN O’Neill says he has heard about Dane Massey and added that he plans to watch the Dundalk defender in the future.

Soccer Republic pundit Stuey Byrne began a campaign to get the 26-year-old Lilywhites full-back a call-up to the international senior squad last month by claiming he deserved a chance to prove himself alongside the likes of Stephen Ward and Robbie Brady.

And word has obviously reached O’Neill as the Derryman revealed this afternoon that he intends to monitor Massey, who is first choice for the SSE Airtiricty League Premier Division champions and current league leaders.

I’ve kept an eye, not so much an eye, but an ear on him more than anything else,” O’Neill said at today’s SportsWorld FAI Summer Soccer Schools Launch.

“I hope at some stage to keep an eye on him.”
