LORCAN MCLOUGHLIN HAS described the sending-off of teammate Patrick Horgan in last Sunday’s Munster final as ‘an outrageous call’ as Cork get set to appeal Horgan’s one-match suspension before the All-Ireland quarter-final against Kilkenny on July 28th.
Horgan has received a one-match ban for his foul on Limerick’s Paudie O’Brien before half-time of the clash in the Gaelic Grounds.
But the Cork attacker is set to appeal the ban handed down by the CCCC with a hearing likely to take place this week.
McLoughlin has called for ‘common sense’ to be used when the offence is reviewed.
“I thought it was an outrageous call and I just hope once Patrick Horgan’s red card is reviewed that common sense is used.
“He (Patrick Horgan) couldn’t believe it you know and I think that was the feeling right throughout the team. Even watching it back you can see there was no intent in the strike.
“Okay, you can say the referee was technically right. You’d hate to see a hurler of his quality to miss out on such an important game as Kilkenny.
“All we can do now is focus on Kilkenny and if we have Patrick Horgan it will be a huge advantage for us, but if not we have to drive on.”
