Men at work: McGeeney joins International Rules set-up

Reports suggest that the Kildare boss will travel to Australia as part of Anthony Tohill’s management team.

KILDARE BOSS KIERAN MCGEENEY has joined Anthony Tohill’s backroom team ahead of this autumn’s International Rules series in Australia, the Irish Daily Star reports (print edition).

Karl O’Kane writes that GAA sources have confirmed the appointment which sees the Mullaghbawn man link up with Kevin O’Brien, Seán Óg de Paor and Eoin ‘Bomber’ Liston.

McGeeney, then 27, was part of the team which represented Ireland in the first International Rules test following the series relaunch in 1998.

His final game in the Irish jersey came in 2006 when he captained Sean Boylan’s side to a 109-79 aggregate defeat on home soil.
