Michael O'Neill to be interviewed for Northern Ireland job

Rovers manager will face committee next week while his assistant, Jim Magilton, and Iain Dowie have appointments today.

JIM MAGILTON AND Iain Dowie will be interviewed for the vacant Northern Ireland manager’s position today.

And the third man on a shortlist, Michael O’Neill, will face the panel after Shamrock Rovers’ final Europa League group game tomorrow night. He’s likely to meet the selection panel next week.

The Hoops face Tottenham Hotspur at Tallaght Stadium, in what will be the former Windsor Park player’s final match in charge.

The IFA last night narrowed the field to the final trio, excluding Dave Jones and World Cup hero Gerry Amrstrong.

Yesterday, the Sky Sports co-commentator revealed he had not heard back from the association about his application.

“I feel I’ve as good a chance as anybody” the former striker told UTV earlier. “But I haven’t heard anything else, so as yet nothing’s moving.

“There are a lot of good candidates that have applied. Until the Irish FA decide what they want to do, who they want to speak to and until they have the official interviews I don’t think anything will move.

“I spoke to Dave Jones, funnily enough, a few days ago and Dave told me the same thing. He hasn’t heard anything from the Irish FA.”

The North face Norway at Windsor Park on February 29.

O’Neill is the bookies’ favourite to win the position after leading Rovers to consecutive Airtricity League titles and, in a first for an Irish club, the pool stages of the Europa League.
