Nadal and Djokovic must wait for final match-up

THE MEN’S FINAL of the US open was postponed last night after wind and rain swept the Arthur Ashe stadium.

Officials were forced to reschedule the highly-awaited match for tonight at 1pm E.D.T.  (9pm Irish time), a prospect which is sure to infuriate television bosses.

The two worst-performing US Open finals in terms of ratings have both been on Monday nights- 2008 (Andy Murray v Roger Federer) and 2009 (Federer v Juan Martin Del Potro).

Novak Djokovic was left wondering if he had somehow induced the postponement with his pre-match comments. “I don’t know the rituals, how to invite the rain,” he said. “An extra day would be great.”

Djokovic trails Nadal 14-7 overall in their career head-to-head record, but the Serbian has won their last three meetings and has a 7-3 win-loss record on hard courts against the SSpaniard.
