DENMARK FACE AN anxious wait for news on fitness of one of their top strikers ahead of the World Cup play-off with Ireland.
Nicolai Jorgensen – the top scorer in Holland’s Eredivisie last season – fractured his wrist on Sunday.
After scoring against Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League in midweek, the 26-year-old scored the opening goal just four minutes into Feyenoord’s 2-2 draw at Den Haag.
But he fractured his left wrist and is now a doubt for Saturday’s first leg against the Boys in Green in Copenhagen.
Jorgensen started six games for Denmark during qualifying, scoring twice.
Coach Age Hareide will also be keeping a close eye on the fitness of captain Simon Kjaer. The defender tweaked his hamstring and limped off in the second half of Sevilla’s defeat against Barcelona on Saturday night.
