'No decision' on Europa League games venue, insist Shamrock Rovers

Reports suggest that Uefa has declined the club’s request to use Tallaght Stadium for the matches.

SHAMROCK ROVERS SAY no decision has yet been made by UEFA on the venue of their six upcoming Europa League group games.

The Hoops hope to host Spurs, PAOK of Greece and Rubin Kazan in Tallaght but face a battle to convince officials that their ground is suitable.

TV3 sports editor Kieran Holden indicated that European chiefs had this afternoon rejected Rovers’ proposal to keep the games at home – rather than move to the Aviva Stadium – tweeting: ”TV3 understands @ShamrockRovers request to use Tallaght for #Europa League games has been declined.”

However, the club’s official Twitter account later replied to him, saying:

“NO decision has been made yet wither [sic] way.”

TV3 have since confirmed that the Dublin club are ‘fighting to play at home’.

Confusion has surrounded the location of the games since the draw was made, with many speculating certain games, and in particular their mouth-watering encounter with Tottenham Hotspur, would be switched to Lansdowne Rd.

Rovers first home tie against Rubin Kazan takes place on 15 September. An official decision and announcement was expected today.
