On the track? Rosberg fastest in Bahrain practice

The German, fresh from his maiden Formula One win in China last week, edged out the Red Bulls of Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber.

NICO ROSBERG CONTINUED his strong form at the Bahrain Grand Prix, going quickest during third practice in Sakhir this morning.

The German, fresh from his maiden Formula One win in China last week, clocked a time of 1 minute 33.254 seconds to edge out the Red Bulls of Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber.

Rosberg, who was also quickest in second practice, went fastest on soft tyres in his Mercedes to hold off reigning world champion Vettel.

After a quiet start, Vettel went top of the timesheets just after halfway through the session, before Mercedes duo Rosberg and Michael Schumacher showed their pace. Seven-time world champion Schumacher initially went top, but was then outdone by his team-mate. Vettel got to within 0.147 seconds in the final moments, but had to settle for second fastest ahead of Webber.

Brit Lewis Hamilton was half a second off the pace with the fourth quickest time, ending up ahead of Schumacher and McLaren team-mate Jenson Button on the time charts. Kimi Raikkonen (Lotus), Daniel Ricciardo (Toro Rosso), Romain Grosjean (Lotus) and Fernando Alonso (Ferrari) completed the top 10.

Alonso’s team-mate Felipe Massa continued to struggle, finishing 16th quickest. Force India, who missed Friday’s second practice, returned and saw Paul di Resta and Nico Hulkenberg go 15th and 19th fastest respectively.
