LOUIS OOSTHUIZEN HOLDS will enter the final day of the European Tour’s Malaysian Open with a narrow lead after storms brought Saturday’s play to a premature close.
The South African, who lost to Bubba Watson in a playoff at the Masters on Sunday, was three-under-par through 10 holes of his third round at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club, enough for an aggregate total of 13-under for the tournament.
Scotland’s Stephen Gallacher is a shot back, while Spaniard Rafael Cabrera-Bello, Englishman Danny Willett and American David Lipsky are two shots further adrift. All have yet to complete their third rounds.
Only 12 players managed to escape Saturday’s weather, with Spaniard Pablo Larrazabal (seven-under) the best placed in a tie for 12th.
Speaking in post-round interview, the 2010 Open champion sounded upbeat about his ability to rebound from the disappointment of last Sunday.
“I feel good now. I made good putts on nine and 10 for birdie and I have another birdie putt to come back to in the morning so it feels really good,” Oosthuizen said. “I am playing well and just have to keep giving myself chances.”
“I think everyone knew that this week was going to be one of those one where we are off and on the golf course and to be honest I am screwed with the jet lag anyway, so it doesn’t matter either way to me if I have to get up at six in the morning or 10.”
