IT HAS BEEN a long seven months for NFL fans but football returns tonight with a repeat of Super Bowl 50 when the Denver Broncos begin the defence of the Vince Lombardi Trophy against the Carolina Panthers.
Both teams have lost key defensive pieces from last year but are not without their chances with Carolina (9/1) among the early favourites to win it all this year.
Denver (16/1) has their work cut out with the New England Patriots (17/2), Pittsburgh Steelers (11/1) and Cincinnati Bengals (13/1) all rated ahead of them.
The main contenders this year would appear to come from the NFC with little to separate the Seattle Seahawks and Green Bay Packers (both 8/1), while the Arizona Cardinals (10/1) are not far behind.
If you buy into the hype, two of the most talked-about teams as being dark horses this offseason are the Oakland Raiders (40/1) and Jacksonville Jaguars (50/1), while the Cleveland Browns — with their 25th starting quarterback in 17 seasons — are a real long-shot at 200/1.
