Two of the bottom three Premier League teams won today

Meanwhile, Southampton’s Champions League hopes took a serious blow.

Swansea 3-1 Hull

FRANCE INTERNATIONAL BAFETIMBI Gomis’ double increased the pressure on relegation-threatened Hull on Saturday as Swansea eased to a 3-1 win in a game that their opponents finished with just 10 men.

Gomis’ brace and Korean Ki Sung-Yueng’s seventh of the season — Paul McShane briefly giving the visitors hope of getting something from the game early in the second-half — leaves Hull just three points above the drop zone and with an horrific series of matches to come against five of the top six.

For Swansea the win — only their second at home this year — edged them to within a point of their record in the Premier League of 47 set in the 2011/12 season.

A bad day for the visitors was made worse following the dismissal of Ireland’s David Meyler in the 53rd minute.

Everton 1-0 Southampton

Everton defender Phil Jagielka delivered a major blow to Southampton’s bid to qualify for the Champions League as his first-half goal secured a 1-0 win at Goodison Park on Saturday.

Ronald Koeman’s side needed a victory on Merseyside to keep in touch with the Premier League’s top four, but Jagielka’s strike left sixth placed Saints trailing fourth placed Manchester City by eight points with just seven games to play.

Southampton’s first defeat in four matches leaves them with a place in the Europa League their most likely route to continental competition next season.

West Brom 1-4 QPR

QPR secured a valuable away victory, beating the 10 men of West Brom 4-1 to inject some hope into their Premier League survival bid.

Chris Ramsey’s side have been dreadful on the road this season but Eduardo Vargas’s superb goal midway through the first half set them on their way.

Charlie Austin scored a diving header before Bobby Zamora netted with a stunning chip as half-time loomed, putting Tony Pulis’s men firmly on the back foot.

The Baggies responded throuh Victor Anichebe as QPR retreated into their own half after the break but the hosts could not force the issue – and they lost midfielder Youssouf Mulumbu to a straight red card after he raised his arm in a challenge with Joey Barton just before the end of normal time.

And Barton got the last laugh with a fourth away goal right before the final whistle.

Leicester 2-1 West Ham

Leicester gave their hopes of Premier League survival a huge boost with victory over West Ham at the King Power Stadium with Andy King the unlikely match-winner, with a late goal to secure a 2-1 win.

The Foxes took the lead early in the game when Esteban Cambiasso fired home from outside the box on 11 minutes and had a glorious chance to double their advantage just minutes later.

A foul by Carl Jenkinson on Leonardo Ulloa gave Nigel Pearson’s men a chance from the spot but David Nugent saw his penalty saved by Adrian.

The hosts were made to rue that miss with Cheikhou Kouyaté levelling just after the half hour mark after good work from Aaron Cresswell.

An entertaining second half followed with Leicester grabbing a late winner through King, his first goal of the season, to give the Foxes hope in their fight for survival.
