MIXED MARTIAL ARTS on these shores will take another big step forward this weekend when the UFC’s latest Irish signing makes his debut for the promotion.
Paul Redmond will start his UFC career in Stockholm on Saturday with a featherweight bout against the undefeated Mirsad Bektic, having received the call-up to replace the injured Alan Omer on just two weeks’ notice.
Nevertheless, the signing of ‘Redser’ won’t have come as much of a surprise to fans who followed the Donaghmede man during his brilliant eight-fight stint with Cage Warriors.
The 28-year-old has tasted defeat just once in the past three years and is always certain to entertain. Only one of his ten career wins came via the judges, and even then he picked up a Fight of the Night bonus.
Redmond is renowned for an adventurous submission offence, with three of his last five victories coming courtesy of his trademark toe-hold. As you’ll see from this video released by Cage Warriors, Redmond’s maiden UFC outing is not one you’ll want to miss.
Taking place at the 30,000-seat Tele2 Arena as part of what the UFC are describing as their biggest ever event in Europe, Paul Redmond and Mirsad Bektic will kick off the televised prelims this Saturday night on BT Sport 1 at 10pm (Irish time).
