REFEREE JOE MCQUILLAN needed a Garda escort off the field in Newbridge on Saturday evening as Kildare fans showed their unhappiness with his performance.

There are no reports of any arrests at the scene, but the Gardai were present to ensure the Cavan native could leave the field safely.

Tyrone emerged winners by 1-11 to 0-12 in the All-Ireland Football Championship Round 3 Qualifier.
