ROBBIE BRADY SAYS Ireland are ready to come off the leash and chase the six points they need to make their World Cup dream a reality.
Giovanni Trapattoni’s squad train again in Malahide this morning as they continue preparations for a make-or-break double-header that sees them face Sweden and Austria in the space of five days.
All three countries are level on points in Group C, with Austria shading the race for the runner-up spot by virtue of their better goal difference.
Ireland’s fate is very much in their own hands and while not losing to their nearest rivals is a must, Brady and his team-mates won’t be going out to play for a draw in either game.
“It’s hard to see now what way the results will go but hopefully we’ll get the wins that we need,” the Hull City youngster said yesterday.
That’s what we’re going out to do. We’re not going out to scrape a draw, we’re going out to win both games. The lads are more than ready for it and we’re more than capable of getting the two wins.
All the lads want to go out and win the games and I don’t think they’re going to be reserved in these two games. We need to go and win the two matches so I don’t think there’ll be any holding back.
If he features against Sweden on Friday night Brady, 21, will win his seventh senior cap. His involvement over the past year has been critical for his development, he said.
“Confidence-wise it’s brilliant being brought into the squad and getting to know the lads. Maybe earlier on I let a couple of games bypass me but I think the more I play, the more I’ve settled in.
It’s a totally different set up because you’re not with the lads day in day out, you’re only here for a week. All the more experienced lads have really helped me come on as a player even though I’m only here for a week or two weeks at a time.
It has brought me on as a player and as a person.
