Robbie Keane confident ahead of MLS play-off showdown

The defending MLS Cup champions were beaten 1-0 by the Earthquakes in Sunday’s first leg in Los Angeles.

IRELAND SKIPPER Robbie Keane remains confident that Los Angeles Galaxy can defy the odds in the second leg of their Western Conference semi-final tonight.

As the defending champions face the challenge of attempting to overturn a 1-0 home defeat, the Dubliner insists the Galaxy outplayed the San Jose Earthquakes throughout the regular season.

“I think if everybody studied the games we’ve played against them, we were the better team, but that means absolutely nothing,” he said.

“I’d prefer to play really badly against them and get a result.”

Keane’s team-mate David Beckham, meanwhile, insists the Galaxy can hand San Jose their first MLS home defeat since March and book their spot in the Western Conference final.

“We said after the game the other day that it wasn’t the ideal result,” Beckham said.  ”But at least we know what we have to do, we know that we have to come out and attack and get the goals that we need.

“There’s no doubt that this team can go there and win this game. It’s going to be tough, but I think we’ve all recovered pretty well from the game the other night.”
