Rome derby: Zeman eyeing capital gains

Lazio sit fifth in the Serie A, a spot above Roma, ahead of the crucial Rome derby at Stadio Olimpico today.

ROMA COACH Zdenek Zeman has spoken about the importance of winning the derby against Lazio today.

Lazio sit fifth in the Serie A, a spot above Roma, ahead of the crucial Rome derby at Stadio Olimpico.

Zeman, who played for both clubs, said he hoped the teams would respect each other and deliver a memorable game.

“The players who had already played in this derby before will be used to it, while the newcomers will realise how important it is once they step onto the pitch,” Zeman told reporters.

“The derby that I remember the most was my first with Lazio – we lost 3-0. I have been happy at both clubs, but I have to admit the Roma supporters are more passionate.

“I understand that this is a derby match and both sets of fans will be wanting their team to win, but the match should be about playing good football and that will make it a great spectacle.”

Brazilian attacker Hernanes is sure to pose a threat to Roma having scored five league goals this campaign. But Zeman said there would be no special plans to stop the 27-year-old.

”How do I stop Hernanes? I will prepare my team against another team, not against individuals,” he said.

“I do not know (Lazio coach) Vladimir Petkovic well, but he has brought organisation into his team and he has done a good job.”
