ROBIN VAN PERSIE is confident that the David Moyes era at Manchester United will be filled with regular trophies.
The 29-year-old helped United regain the Premier League title last season, with 26 goals in 38 appearances as he finished as the competition’s top-scorer. It followed a first Premier League title for rivals Manchester City and was a quick reassertion – if it was needed – as to who the dominant team in the city are.
And despite the departure of legendary manager Alex Ferguson, to retirement, Van Persie is expecting new boss Moyes to continue the club’s successful record after arriving from Everton.
“I have a feeling that we can do much more and that we can win many more trophies,” Van Persie said. “I’ve had a year to work with everyone and now the whole coaching staff is changing, which makes it a new challenge. I’ve got to know the players through and through and I’ve a feeling they have a lot more in them. A whole lot more.”
Van Persie admitted he would have liked to work under Ferguson for longer having joined from Arsenal in August 2012, but added that he was proud to have the experience of playing for the Scotsman, who is the most-decorated manager in British football.
“I’d have preferred it if he’d stayed on a few more years. But I understand his decision,” he said. “I’m even prouder that I could work under him for a year. I could see he was a legendary man.”
