Massive blow for Laois as hurling boss Cheddar Plunkett resigns

Ger Cunningham is the new interim manager.

THE LAOIS COUNTY Board have this morning announced that senior hurling manager Seamus ‘Cheddar’ Plunkett has resigned from his position.

The statement reads:

“Laois County Board regret to announce Seamas Plunkett has stepped down as Laois Senior Hurling manager citing personal reasons.

“Laois County Board would like to thank Seamas for his contribution to Laois hurling over the last number of years and look forward to working with him again in the near future.

“Ger Cunningham has been appointed as interim manager with immediate effect.”

The news is a major setback to Laois as they prepare to take on Offaly in the Leinster quarter-final on 7 June.

Cunningham – who won the 2004 All-Ireland club title as a manager with Newtownshandrum and the 2011 Fitzgibbon Cup crown with UL – has been coaching Laois and now assumes the managerial reins.
