Power falls short in Bermuda playoff – but secures 2027 PGA Tour card

American Austin Smotherman came out on top.

SÉAMUS POWER HAS fallen agonisingly short in his bid for a third PGA Tour title, after being beaten in a playoff at the Butterfield Bermuda Championship.

American Austin Smotherman came out on top after the pair played the 16th hole three times, and Power bogeyed it on the third occasion.

There’s a silver lining for the Waterford man: he secures his 2027 PGA Tour card with the runner-up finish.

The 300 FedEx Cup points earned helped him over the line, while Power also pockets $654,000 (€584,722) of the $6 million (€5,364,420) purse.

Smotherman takes home $1,080,000 (€965,595) and 500 FedEx Cup points.

The tournament leaders played off in strange circumstances on Monday after Sunday’s final round was postponed due to inclement weather conditions. The tournament results were considered final through 54 holes in accordance with PGA Tour regulations.

Smotherman carded a five-under-par 66 on Saturday for a 16-under-par total of 197, and went on to add his second title of the month after lifting his maiden PGA Tour trophy at the Utah Championship three weeks ago.

Power’s four-under 67 on Saturday included a birdie at the wind-blown 17th that pulled him level with Smotherman atop the leaderboard.

The leading duo were two strokes clear of American Taylor Moore and Canadians Corey Conners and Ben Silverman, who all finished 54 holes at 14-under par.
