Séamus Power seven shots off the lead at Wyndham Championship

Waterford man is seeking a top-two finish to qualify for the FedEx St Jude Championship.

SÉAMUS POWER IS seven shots off the lead having carded a two-under par 68 at the opening round of the Wyndham Championship.

The Wyndham Championship at Sedgefield Country Club, North Carolina is the final event of the PGA Tour regular season, with the last FedExCup Playoff places still up for grabs.

The top 70 in the standings advance to the $20 million (€17.33 million) FedEx St Jude Championship. Power needs to finish solo second at worst to make the top 70. He needs a big round today after yesterday’s 68 which leaves in a tie for 54th.

The Waterford man started on the 10th and had an early birdie on 13, but he dropped shots on the 15th and 16th. He responded with a birdie on 17, and had two more, on the holes 1 and 6.

Power is seven shots off the leader, American Beau Hossler who shot a nine-under-par 61.

Americans Sahith Theegala and Ben James are tied on eight under in second place. Some players did not finish their first rounds with play suspended due to bad weather.
