Sean Óg back in Cork fold but Jerry O'Connor calls it a day

Jimmy Barry Murphy has included the exiled Na Piarsaighs man in his training panel for next year.

NEW CORK HURLING senior manager Jimmy Barry Murphy has brought Sean Óg Ó hAilpín back into the squad.

But the Rebels will plan without Newtownshandrum star, Jerry O’Connor, who retires.

Ó hAilpín was controversially axed from the panel by previous manager Denis Walsh, despite a glittering intercounty career.

The 32-year-old O’Connor won two All-Irelands and three All-Stars since joining the senior panel over a decade ago.

“The Cork senior hurling training panel for the coming season has been announced and will be reviewed on an on-going basis,” a county board statement reads.

“To those outgoing players who aren’t included in the panel at the moment, the management would like to pay tribute to the fantastic service they have given to the Cork jersey over the last few years.

“Jerry O’Connor is retiring from intercounty hurling and Kieran Murphy is not available due to work commitments at present outside of the Cork area.”
