UNDER-FIRE FIFA PRESIDENT Sepp Blatter has been provisionally suspended for 90 days by his own organisation.

An ethics committee tribunal met today to discuss the criminal proceedings brought against Blatter.

The Swiss administrator is accused of singing a contract which was ‘unfavourable’ to FIFA and of making a ‘disloyal’ payment to Michel Platini.

According to Paul Kelso of Sky News, the suspension is “pending further investigation by Swiss prosecutors.”

The BBC report that a final decision will be made tomorrow and that as of now, the recommendation is to suspend.

Committe members were also to to decide whether to take action against UEFA leader Platini and former FIFA vice president Chung Mong-Joon, both candidates to take over from Blatter. No decision has been reached yet however.

Chung hit out at Blatter today calling him “a hypocrite and a liar” and threatening a legal case for embezzlement of FIFA funds.

The 79-year-old Swiss official Blatter, who has ruled FIFA for 17 years, insisted in a German magazine interview however that he would not be forced out of office before an election to be held in February.

FIFA has kept the activities of its independent ethics committee cloaked in secrecy in recent months as accusations of corruption have mounted.
