FINE GAEL SENATOR Michelle Mulherin made the news last week after her public struggles to get a ticket for the All-Ireland senior football final at Croke Park.
The Mayo native claimed the GAA was discriminating against members of the Seanad by not guaranteeing their admission for the climax of the Gaelic football season.
As it happened, the game ended in a draw so Mulherin will have another opportunity to obtain tickets for the replay on 1 October.
In the meantime, Shamrock Rovers have cleverly stepped in to invite her — along with all sitting senators, TDs, MEPs, councillors and President Michael D Higgins — to this Friday’s SSE Airtricity League Premier Division fixture with Galway United.
“Following some ticket difficulties experienced by Senators last weekend for a match in Croke Park, Shamrock Rovers are offering two free tickets for all sitting senators this weekend in a special invitation, which will also include TDs and we will go so far as to include our MEPs and councillors,” reads a statement from the Hoops.
“There is always a welcome on the mat for our President, Michael D Higgins and it is his team (Galway United) that we play this Friday night at Tallaght Stadium.”
Expect to see Galway and LOI fan Higgins there, but we wouldn’t be as confident about the rest showing up.
