Two sides to Rovers' domination summed by stalwart Burke and newcomer Brennan
GRAHAM BURKE CHERISED making more history with Shamrock Rovers as he celebrated his sixth League of Ireland winners’ medal.
In a week when the forward was shortlisted for the PFA Ireland player of the year award, the Dubliner added yet another Premier Division title to his roll of honour.
Burke has been one of Stephen Bradley’s stalwarts in the teams that have now delivered six crowns in seven seasons.
“It’s all part of history. It’s a sixth [title] for some of us. There are not many people who have won six titles. It’s special and something I’m really proud.
“It’s been a great season, special to get number six. It’s been a bit of an up and down season. Some results we couldn’t get over the line in Europe but to get over the line in the league is special.”
Burke was mobbed by supporters on the pitch at full time and then was able to savour victory among family.
As he made his way up the steps to belt out renditions of We Are The Champions and Build Me Up Buttercup, he held his daughter in his arms.
Teammates made the most of the moment, too, and at the other end of spectrum there was 19-year-old sensation Adam Brennan trying to wrap his head around his first title.
He became a senior Republic of Ireland international this year and capped a momentous 2026 by scoring twice in the first half as Rovers cruised to this 4-0 win over Sligo Rovers.
“Unbelievable. Look what it means to everyone. We had a goal at the start of this season and it was to do this. We’ve done it. It’s unreal. I believe in the players every time. These scenes, I don’t know what to say.
“It’s only the start of it. To think what I’ve done, Ireland caps, the 21s, now the league, I can’t put into words.”
On Bradley, Brennan hailed his manager’s ability to put him at ease from the moment he arrived at the club: “He’s been unreal. He’s had so much faith in me from minute one. It can be daunting coming in from UCD to the champions. He’s had so much faith and it’s shown.
“The first of many hopefully. The hunger is there for the group. We want more and we want more next season.”
The nature of this Rovers team is that they’re already looking to the future while still celebrating another moment of history for a club that has now won 23 league titles, a quarter of which were delivered by Bradley and a core of this squad.
