SHANE LOWRY HAS broken into the top 20 of the World Golf Rankings after his second-place finish on Sunday at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in California.
Lowry’s solo second finish on 19-under, two shots behind winner Rory McIlroy, saw him move up ten spots from 28th to 18th in the official rankings.

His career best world ranking is 16th, a status reached in 2019 after his success at The Open Championship at Royal Portrush.
McIlroy remains third in the rankings after his 27th win on the PGA Tour, but is closing in on second-placed Xander Schauffele, the double Major winner last year with his victories in the PGA Championship and The Open Championship.
Scottie Scheffler, who finished in a tie for ninth on Sunday, is still the clear world number one off the back of a 2024 season that saw him win seven tournaments, including the Masters at Augusta.
Waterford’s Seamus Power moved to 124th from 137th after he finished in a tie for 17th on Sunday.
Lowry pocketed $2.16 million for his finish on Sunday at the second signature event of the PGA Tour season, with victory landing McIlroy $3.6 million.
There are other substantial benefits for Lowry after his finish at Pebble Beach as he moved up to ninth on the FedEx Cup standings, and jumped up on the Ryder Cup Europe rankings to fourth, behind leader McIlroy, Tyrrell Hatton, and Rasmus Hojgaard, ahead of September’s event at Bethpage Black in New York.
McIlroy and Lowry won’t be in action this week at TPC Scottsdale for the WM Phoenix Open in Arizona, before returning to action for the next signature event with The Genesis Invitational in San Diego, California, from 13-16 February.
